Here's what you'll do: Provide comfort and support to people who have been displaced from their homes during disasters Assist with various tasks at the shelter including welcoming guests, registration, serving meals and providing information/resources Receive free online training to prepare you for the roleQualifications: Must be willing and able to volunteer in-person at disaster shelters before, during and/or after a disaster Capable of meeting physical requirements such as lifting 20 pounds, sitting or standing for 2-hour periods, walking 2 miles during a shift and climbing stairs For local disasters, commit to multiple shifts lasting 4-12 hours each. Works as part of an assigned team to respond to local disasters within two hours, or as soon as possible. Delivers immediate direct client assistance in accordance with Red Cross standards and procedures. Works with on-scene lead to assess whether additional resources/support are required and communicates those needs to DAT Leadership. Attends regularly scheduled team/DAT meetings as required by Chapter/Region. Commits to being available during assigned shifts and communicate scheduling conflicts with DAT Leadership.Every day, people are forced from their home due to fires, storms or other disasters. You will work as part of an assigned team to provide immediate support and assistance to individuals and families who have been impacted by a home fire or other local disaster.
