The Martha O'Bryan Center needs upbeat, positive volunteers to assist in the food pantry. On Mondays and Thursdays, volunteers will be able to help with unloading deliveries. Every day of the week, volunteers will be able to work alongside clients to 'shop' in our food pantry and pick out the items that will serve them the most. Volunteers will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of the premises, bringing heavier boxes out to client cars.

Our headquarter campus sits in the East Nashville public housing campus of Cayce Place, currently transforming into the mixed-income neighborhood Boscobel Heights.  This is where we operate most of our programs, supporting education goals for learners of all ages, empowering youth and adults in their careers, and providing stability and support services for individuals and families.

Come work with us down at the Trevecca Urban Farm! Tasks vary daily, but most likely will include weeding, planting, mulching, trash pick-up, etc. Closed-toed shoes are a requirement as your work will be outdoors. We highly recommend bringing your own reusable water bottle and wearing pants to protect against tall grass and bugs. 

You may volunteer at the farm for a chapel credit. If you do, please let your site supervisor know so that we can get the credit accounted for. 

If you are not able to make it to your volunteer shift, please email the site supervisor with at least a 24-hour hour notice. If you do not show up without letting us know in advance, you will not be able to volunteer at the farm again for a chapel credit.

Join us each Tuesday and Thursday from 3:40-5:00pm as we partner with the Hispanic Family Foundation to provide after school tutoring to refugee and immigrant children in East Nashville (no prior tutoring experience required)! For those that don't have homework, they need help with grammar and practicing conversational English!

This spot will take place at Plaza Mariachi, in front of the Hispanic Family Foundation! 

Meal of Hope is our weekly meal for the homeless & inner-city community! Enjoy live music, testimonies, ministry, and fellowship with a loving community over a hot meal. Volunteers arrive at 5 PM and we welcome guests at 5:30 PM. There are opportunities to serve the meal, eat and fellowship with guests, serve dessert & drinks, and more! 

Every Friday at 10:30 AM, we will be doing an hour long nursery rhymes and phonics class with the younger children living in our Nashville community. These children are refugees and immigrants from Spanish speaking countries, so learning English at a young age is crucial to their academic success. Sign up to volunteer and join in on the fun!

Senior Ride Nashville is growing our volunteer driver team! Drivers use their own vehicles to transport seniors to community centers, medical appointments, grocery stores, beauty/barber shops and more. Help a senior get where they need to go and make a friend in the process! Volunteer shifts are flexible and scheduled at your convenience using an easy online tool. SRN provides rides Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Complete the on-demand volunteer training on our website to get out on the road soon!

It is Senior Ride Nashville’s mission to enrich the lives of older adults and engage them in the community by providing affordable and assisted transportation.

Enjoy watching our lawn and ridgeline fill with colorful kites this fall at Mill Ridge Park's Bi-Annual Kite Fest. We need your help with a variety of tasks that may include welcoming park visitors, assembling kites, demonstrating proper kite flying etiquette, facilitating lawn games, replenishing snacks and beverages, and post-event cleanup. Instructions and support for volunteers will be available onsite by park staff. Check in upon arrival at the welcome table for specific role information and supplies.

Kite Fest takes place at Mill Ridge Park in Antioch, TN during the spring and fall seasons. The event space will be marked with orange cones, yellow flags, and a Kite Fest sign at the driveway entrance. Please park in the grass along the gravel drive, across from the red barns.

To ensure your safety and comfort, please wear comfortable shoes for grassy, uneven terrain. Prepare for exposure to the sun and bugs (sunscreen and bug spray provided). Snacks, beverages, and portable toilet are available onsite.

Join us each Saturday from 11am-1pm for community day with immigrant and refugee families providing games, learning, and a positive experience in their environment for hope and healing.

Join us Sundays from 11-1 giving fresh free groceries to those in need! We will meet at the West Nashville Dream Center (520 39th Ave N) to sort and package boxes of food. We will then drive to to our West Nashville location to distribute. This will happen rain or shine, so please check the weather and dress accordingly : )

Join us for a time to help set up and distribute free fresh produce and supplemental grocery items to residents of Trevecca Tower 1/East! Arrange produce boxes, canned goods, and food items on tables, interact with residents, serve snacks and beverages, and an opportunity for residents to earn prizes.

This month we are looking for letters or cards around the theme of Fall or Halloween. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to. Children are welcome to contribute also (an adult is required for minors to sign up).

GNRC's Medicare Counseling Program is partnering with local universities for a Medicare Training focused on Plan Comparisons and a workshop day to help people in the community with their plan comparison requests that they have mailed in during the Annual Open Enrollment Period. 

We will hold a virtual training via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 8am to 12pm during which you will learn the basics of Medicare as well as how to do plan comparisons for beneficiaries. Please note that this training is ONLY for those interested in participating in the plan comparison workshop on October 31st. If you are interested in learning Medicare basics but don't want to or can't attend the workshop, let your professor know and we will provide that opportunity for you at another time. 

At the end of the training, you will take the certification test and be officially certified to complete Medicare plan comparisons. Certification is valid for one year. Update training is required annually to maintain certification. 

Those wishing to become full Medicare counselors (able to counsel directly) can pursue further training with GNRC. 

On October 31, 2025, from 8am to 12pm we will meet in person at Lipscomb University (details on room location and parking to be forthcoming via email for those who sign up) to have a plan comparison workshop. We will put the training to use and complete plan comparisons for people in the community who have mailed in their requests to SHIP. You will be able to make a big difference for people, helping them evaluate their best options for a Medicare Plan for the next year. Attendance of the training and successful certification is required to attend the workshop.

Additional opportunities to help with plan comparisons beyond the plan comparison workshop are available for those interested.

This is an opportunity for international students and residents of the Trevecca Towers to receive free grocery items! We will operate out of the Trevecca Towers 1 Parking Lot (close to the athletic fields), on the side facing the Hardy Alumni Building. We will unload items from a large Second Harvest truck, and setup tables for people to pick what they'd like to take home.

We need volunteers to help us restock the grocery tables, break down boxes, socialize, tally numbers, and help where needed. If you can't stay the full two hours, please communicate that when you signup to serve.

Do you find Medicare interesting?

Would you enjoy being a popular resource on all things Medicare for your friends, family and the community?

Then this opportunity is for you! Volunteers with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) will learn how to break up the complicated issue of Medicare into bite size pieces for others and provide assistance to them in choosing the Medicare plans and assistance options (if applicable) that are right for them. You will learn to provide unbiased and accurate information to anyone you assist. 

SHIP Volunteers will be able to give clients peace of mind and can witness first-hand the impact they are making in the beneficiary's life with the information they provide. 

This training is designed for new volunteers to the program. Attendance of all activities are required to become certified as a counselor. The classes will build on each other, so it is important not to miss a session.

For volunteers who'd like to attend events to share Medicare information and do plan comparisons or administrative work for the program but NO direct client counseling there is the option to attend just up to the second-class session.

Any volunteer who would like to be a full counselor will need to attend the full curriculum (all three class sessions as well as participate in the required activities in-between the sessions). Full certification as a counselor requires a minimum of 12 hours of in class training AND additional mentoring thereafter until the volunteer is able to provide counseling on their own. 

Medicare Volunteer Certification Curriculum

Class 1: Thursday, February 5 from 8:30-12:30 (virtual via Microsoft Teams)

Class 2: Thursday, February 12 from 8:30-12:30 (in-person at GNRC's offices)

Class 3: Thursday, February 26 from 8:30-12:30 (in-person at GNRC's offices)

Part of your training is hands-on experience. You can participate in a variety of different events. The event schedule will be provided during the first session. In addition, we will schedule counseling calls for you to observe. You will be asked to provide your availability to shadow counseling calls between the 2nd and 3rd class.  

We will go over the training schedule with you to determine what level of training and commitment is best for you. Application forms and initial conversation with the Volunteer Manager are required for participation. Nations Ministry Center is a local nonprofit that helps refugee families become generationally self-sufficient through a variety of services, including immigration assistance and educational programming. Located in Southeast Nashville, Nations Ministry Center works directly with families in the heart of some of the city's most culturally diverse neighborhoods.  

Nations Academy, a literacy tutoring initiative of Nations Ministry Center, helps refugee children close the literacy gap through targeted language development and homework assistance in a safe and supportive environment using Nashville's Vision for Holistic Youth Development to cultivate growth mindsets, connect social and emotional skills, and grow cognitive skills.

Volunteers are needed to assist refugee youth in the classroom with literacy practice, homework help, and community building. Materials are provided. We'll orient and prepare you for your role. You simply need to show up ready to encourage youth! Scheduled opportunities are available Mondays through Thursdays 3:15-6:15 (elementary classrooms) and 4:00-6:00 (middle school classrooms).

Keep in mind this is not a drop-in opportunity. Volunteers build friendships by volunteering on a consistent, once a week basis and must be scheduled to serve. The best fits for this role are:

Required service verification is available, as well as internship opportunities. Participants 18 or over must pass a required background check before serving. Patient Care Volunteers provide friendly visits and companionship to patients and/or their caregivers.  Patient Care Volunteers may provide caregiver relief, read to patients, play music for patients, assist in letter writing, running errands for patients and/or caregivers, or just sit and talk. Our volunteers spend time in patient's homes, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing facilities. 

 Give as little or as much of your time as you would like. All volunteers will attend orientation and be trained before going into the field.

Adoration Hospice Administrative Volunteers may work out of the Nashville, Kingston Springs, or Murfreesboro office - performing the following tasks: office support, mailings, filing, medical supply storage, scanning, and answering phones. 

Other tasks Administrative Volunteers may assist with - presentations and training, community events, phone calls to patients, bereavement support, crafting, prepare and deliver welcome baskets to new patients.

Visits with a client can look different as each client has different needs and interests. Volunteers may read to clients, provide company and observe the clients living and health conditions. Volunteers can make a real difference in the lives of seniors, providing both concrete assistance and vital contact, overcoming the isolation and depression often present in older adults.

As a TN SHIP/SMP (Tennessee State Health Insurance Assistance Program/Senior Medicare Patrol) Volunteer Medicare Counselor you will be assisting individuals who have questions regarding the Medicare program through one-on-one counseling over the phone, in-person, or via email. You will receive extensive training to assist Medicare beneficiaries and will be trained to provide free, non-biased and personalized counseling and referral services to a wide range of health insurance issues.

Project Purpose:

TN SHIP’s goal is to provide free, non-biased, personalized counseling and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and their families who need the help in navigating their way through the Medicare program. SHIP provides understandable and objective information to Medicare beneficiaries on a wide range of health insurance issues. Volunteers are essential in providing these services.

Transportation is a challenge for many seniors in Nashville and providing a ride is a meaningful way to help our older neighbors get where they need to go. Senior Ride Nashville keeps older adults connected to their community by providing affordable and assisted transportation for our riders. We are looking for caring, reliable volunteer drivers to provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, beauty/barber shops, community centers and more!  Your time can make a big difference in the lives of older adults in Nashville.

SRN drivers use their own vehicles and select rides based on their availability, location, and interest using an online scheduling tool. Volunteer drivers must complete an orientation and a background and motor vehicle record check before driving responsibilities begin. Records are checked on a recurring basis.

Volunteer as a blood donor ambassador to help our blood donors have a pleasant experience. Locations include Gallatin, Nashville, Brentwood, Franklin, and Murfreesboro.  

Purpose: To assist blood donors and blood collection staff at local blood drives.

Summary

Having a clean space for our clients when they come to visit our centers is a vital part of the work that we do. It is part of our trauma-informed practice, and it helps show our clients that they are worthy of a beautiful space at which they can receive help and services. Having various groups such as companies, school groups, organizations, volunteer groups, etc. come and help us deep clean our centers is essential to our work. 

Responsibilities

The homeless often have a hard time finding food especially since COVID-19 has shut down many shelters! We are collecting gift cards to restaurants in the Tennessee area that we can give to the homeless so they can get hot meals when other organizations are not providing that night. 

Since school is about to start, we know so many students and families get new backpacks every year, but what do you do with your old ones? We want to collect gently used or NEW backpacks to our homeless friends. We want to make sure they have something to carry their items in once we give them the other supplies!

GraceWorks Ministries will be collecting donations at our facility on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9-1.  I need volunteers to come help carry in donations from our donors.  You will need to wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.  Lifting will be involved.

Get a group together and put your cooking skills to the test in our kitchen, while also broadening your understanding of criminal justice reform and what Dismas is doing to help returning citizens that have been negatively affected by the criminal justice system.

Autism Career Training is actively looking for peer models and volunteers. ACT is looking for volunteers for all days including Saturdays. 

Wilson Rides is looking to expand our Volunteer Driver team! Volunteer drivers are asked to give rides to seniors 55+ who no longer drive, 1 or 2 times per month. Volunteer Drivers use their own vehicles to give rides and can choose their own rides based on their schedule. Wilson Rides uses an easy to use, online tool to schedule rides.

ABOUT: The Store operates as a free grocery store allowing people to shop for their basic needs. Our mission is to nourish communities and cultivate hope by providing nutritious food choices and access to supportive services in a dignified, loving environment. This volunteer opportunity will allow you to make a tangible impact upon the local community. You'll be helping provide wholesome food to families and the food insecure in a welcoming environment while protecting dignity and fostering hope.

ROLES: We are dependent on an excited and passionate volunteer base to help our customers shop. These volunteer shifts will mainly involve checking people out at the register, ensuring customers do not exceed specified item limits, bagging their groceries in a timely and efficient manner, and escorting customers to their vehicles with their groceries. At the start of the shift, you will have an orientation and brief training; to ensure that we can process as many customers as possible, please be on time. During this shift you may also be greeting customers at check-in, helping people with questions while they shop, cleaning and tidying, stocking shelves and produce, unloading pallets, or other miscellaneous tasks. You will be able to take a break during your shift, so you are welcome to bring a snack and drink for break time.

After each group is finished, we will combine our lists to create one master list of the total store inventory.

Join us at one of our 4 mentoring programs to become a 1:1 mentor for an elementary, middle, or high school student! Meet with them once a week at their school to eat lunch together or at their afterschool site to play games and/or do a bible study, and build a positive relationship. Days and times are flexible, depending on the mentoring program selected!  

Programs include Breakfast & Bible Study, Dinner & Devotion, R.I.S.E., and Lunch Buddies!

Breakfast & Bible Study meets from 6:45-7:45am on Thursday mornings with our middle school students.

Dinner & Devotion meets 6:00-7:00pm on Tuesday evenings with our high school students. 

R.I.S.E mentors meet with an elementary student once a week M-Th between 3pm-5pm during afterschool programming. 

Lunch Buddies meet with an elementary or middle school student at their school during lunch time to eat with them. Lunch times occur between 10am-1pm M-F. 

Our friendly drivers bridge the gap of transportation in Sumner County.

Volunteer Drivers provide rides to those who are 60 years or older and no longer drive to get to medical appointments, grocery stores, senior centers and more in their own vehicles!

We provide transportation for riders to a 25 mile radius of Portland. Drivers can pick up rides that fit their schedule. 

Volunteer nurses work with staff nurses and providers to deliver comprehensive patient care at Siloam’s Primary Care Clinic. Volunteer nurses are responsible for welcoming patients to the clinic and performing all intake procedures, and they also provide assistance during appointments in order to provide excellent and compassionate care. Volunteer nurses are trained and supported by staff nurses.

TIME COMMITMENT 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Conversations to Remember is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated towards combating loneliness and isolation felt by senior citizens. Our virtual visit program matches 2-3 college students with residents of long-term care, assisted living, and memory care communities for virtual video visits. These residents have been suffering from isolation, and students really brighten their days just by speaking with them. We provide training to the students in the program about the best ways to interact with the seniors, as well as additional support throughout their service. Since these visits are virtual, students can do it without any travel. This is both convenient and allows more of the volunteers' time to be spent volunteering, rather than commuting to their volunteering location. We provide this program free of charge to seniors across the country, and have students from around the country as well. Typically, students volunteer 1-2 hours per week. Each call lasts up to one hour, based on the senior's attention span and mood on each day. We expect students to volunteer for approximately 16 weeks, so that they can build a friendship with the senior. This does not need to coincide with the start of a semester, as we have new seniors starting all the time and train new volunteers weekly. The students are matched based on the times that they're available with a senior who is available at the same time, and they will have a regular, weekly appointment for their visit. Students wishing more visits or other opportunities that allow them to volunteer more hours can be accommodated with different ways to volunteer, such as assisting us with our social media, call support, or marketing. When you assist with a reuse center shift you will be in the center of it all, guided by our awesome Reuse Specialists in a variety of processing tasks. From rolling and detangling materials, to creating fun paper scrap packs, stocking our shelves, or processing beads and other donations, you'll be helping us give new life to these materials by keeping them out of the landfill! Come meet the amazing Contributor vendors and staff as we celebrate the launch of a new edition of the paper, work together to improve the business and lives of our vendors, and enjoy the community that is at the core of The Contributor's success.

Volunteering at ThriftSmart is a hands-on way to make a real impact in our community. Since we are open seven days a week, our great volunteer opportunities can fit most schedules. We welcome both individual volunteers and groups of up to 15 people.

Without volunteers we couldn’t do all the things we’ve been doing in our community. We could not keep expanding in ways we dream of to become even more involved with the residents of Nashville and the surrounding areas without volunteer help.  We get to meet and help new people every day who visit our store.

Kennedy Hall Residents will go to Preston Taylor Ministries Community House a few Fridays out of the semester and interact with students during their after school program. PTM at Community House serves K - 8th grade students. They are divided into small groups with 4 -30 minute rotations. You may be helping with Homework, Sports activities, outside games, an enrichment activity, one on one time with students or perhaps some bible time. We are locating in the St Lukes Community House gym at 1605 56th Ave North on the corner of California Ave and 56th Ave North. It's a large gym building, tan with a red roof. 

Are you a skilled photographer and enjoy taking people of pictures and events?

Then we are looking for you!

We'd love to find a volunteer photographer who would be available to take pictures at various board meetings, community events etc. Majority of these events will be indoors. We'd like you to capture the events and the people who participated. 

Times and days and frequency varies. We can discuss events and meetings on a one by one basis.

Interested in helping The Nashville Food Project leverage food that is already in our community to meet the needs of our neighbors? Join us for a “Best Use” prep session! We receive weekly bulk donations from incredible partners such as Costco and Bells Bend Farms. Our “Best Use” prep sessions focus on turning those bulk donations into prepared, usable ingredients to be incorporated into our meals! Over 40% of food in the U.S. goes to waste and our food recovery efforts are a form of resistance to the myth that hunger is a scarcity issue! “Best Use” group prep sessions are a wonderful way to build team comradery, perfect your dicing skills, and support the work of community food security simultaneously!   

"Best Use" Prep sessions take place in our commercial kitchen setting, supported by our Meals team. Sample tasks may include: chopping and assembling veggie and fruit salads from donated produce, washing, coring, and dicing fresh harvests of tomatoes to be incorporated into sauces for the week’s coming meals, sorting recovered hauls to identify usable ingredients and separating compostable items to be broken down in our compost systems to act as inputs for our garden spaces, scrubbing, peeling and chopping farm-fresh potatoes to serve as a roasted root vegetable side for the week’s mobile meals and many other similar roles!

Café is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 8am - 10am. Our café program is designed to be a space for our participants to relax, enjoy a cup (or three!) of coffee, and some light breakfast items (think of what you may find at your favorite coffee shop!). We are always looking for volunteers that are eager to serve others, hear stories from those in the chaos, and to help us provide a place of rest for those using our programming.

Everyone needs help sometimes, and we are here to support families in their time of need. Each month, our Pantry provides fresh, nutritious food to over 1,000 + families in the Greater Nashville area, giving them peace of mind from knowing there is food for their tables. 

Volunteer Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays  and Saturday

Volunteer Hours: 9:30am -2:30pm

We have multiple ways to serve in The Pantry:

We are in need of volunteers on Monday nights to assist with ESL courses. This need would ideally be served by someone who can make a weekly committment. Meet and greet adults who are taking English classes at The Branch. Direct them to their classes and serve as conversation partners for workbook and conversation activities and assist teacher with reading, writing, and in-class activities. 

Volunteers who can come a minimum of twice per month for 2 hours each day and a maximum of twice per week (or more if you are able!). Volunteer roles include Session Leaders (leading mentorship sessions either on a one-on-one or small group basis), "RA"s Ranch Assistants (helping with Sessions and completing chores during), and Horse Care (feeding, watering, mucking out, and giving hay to the Session horse herd).

No horse experience necessary. After applying to volunteer, you will be invited to a "Round-Up" (a tour of the Ranch) to learn more about volunteering, asked for 2 letters of recommendation and a background check, and then signed up for training dates. Do you enjoy administrative work and would be available approximately 2-3 hours per month to provide support in person?

GNRC's Quality Assurance Program mails out surveys to clients who have received home-delivered meals to make sure they have received excellent service and have the opportunity to provide feedback. The surveys are a great tool to make any necessary program improvements.

You would be preparing the surveys for mailing. This involves folding pages and stuffing them, along with a return envelope, into an envelope to be mailed, and then placing address labels on the outer envelope and labels/stamps on the return envelopes. We aim to have these surveys mailed out by the end of each month. 

No prior experience is needed. All training and materials will be provided, and staff will be available to answer questions as needed. 

We aim to have these surveys mailed out by the end of each month and can accommodate a flexible schedule during business hours Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm. Please add in the notes your availability to work on this project.

You are welcome to work together with a friend.

We'd appreciate someone who can do this several months in a row but can also accommodate one-time volunteers. This is an ongoing need and volunteers can support this opportunity on a regular basis each month. Just let us know what you are able to do, and we will confirm specific details and a schedule when we have confirmed you for this role. 

Vendor Sales Office (Weekdays and Saturday Morning)

A fantastic place to connect and engage with our unhoused Nashville Neighbor. 

 Get to know our vendors!! Our vendor sales office is where vendors come to purchase papers.  This office, open six days a week is almost entirely volunteer-driven. It takes two volunteers to fully staff each shift. Volunteer responsibilities include invoicing, cashiering, and distributing papers. Vendor office volunteer roles are high-commitment positions. We are looking for individuals that can commit to consistently serving at least one shift each week.  A shift can be 2.5 hours (1/2 day) or 5 hours (full day).We treat our volunteers like staff and look for individuals that will treat their position with the same respect they would a job (e.g. giving ample notice if you cannot make a shift, arriving early, etc.)

Social Work Intern: The Contributor social work intern will get valuable on-the-ground experience working directly with people experiencing homelessness and navigating the process of getting into permanent housing. You will assist our housing navigators with helping out vendors of The Contributor through running errands, making phone calls, and occasional clerical work. All majors will be considered but this would be especially beneficial to those interested in nonprofit management or social work. Candidates must be current college students and must have a reliable vehicle, though mileage will be reimbursed. This internship is unpaid and must be used for school credit. The Contributor office staff will work with the intern(s) to adjust responsibilities and ensure the internship aligns with the participant’s career goals

We are seeking a family-friendly musician with songs appropriate for all ages and backgrounds to play unplugged or acoustic shows at our family shelter!

Do you speak and/or write in a language other than English? The Branch would love your help! We serve immigrants from many countries and have ongoing language assistance needs (especially Spanish and Arabic) to help greet people in multiple languages, to work with staff and neighbors on identifying short-term and long-term needs, and in helping interpret at workshops for the community. We require a 1-hour orientation and training via Zoom.
