Our Family Resource Center includes a dedicated supply room where students and families can access essential items with dignity. The space is stocked with food, hygiene products, and a variety of clean, season‑appropriate clothing. Everything is arranged neatly to make the room feel welcoming, organized, and easy to navigate. Students, faculty, and families are encouraged to take what they need in a comfortable, private setting. Our goal is to ensure every student feels supported, cared for, and ready to succeed.

Mondays and/or Fridays in 2+ hour shifts between the hours of 8:30am-3:30pm.

Dress comfortably and please wear closed-toe shoes.

We welcome volunteers of any number—individuals or groups up to about 10 people comfortably.

There is free parking in the side lot and on the surrounding streets. Please ring the doorbell and report to the front desk.

There is a project for everyone! Whether you prefer to lift boxes or need a seated task, we can accommodate you. Tasks may include:
- Sorting food items (oldest in front, newest in back)
- Folding and sizing clothing
- Sorting underwear and socks by size
- Organizing food by type
- Tidying additional spaces, such as our family/school laundry closet

Dress comfortably and please wear closed-toe shoes.

We highly encourage anyone who plans to volunteer to complete a complimentary background check through PENCIL first. Please complete the information for the background check at your earliest convenience through this link. PENCIL Background Check Registration

The background check will take anywhere from 5-7 business days.

Help us bring some cheer to isolated seniors, seniors in nursing homes and/or disabled individuals in our communities by sending them heartfelt letters, letting them know that we care about them.

We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month the theme for the letters is "Travel". Share about your favorite travel location, any travel locations on your bucket list or location you have recently traveled to. Take the reader to that location, feel free to include pictures.

You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 08/31/2026. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. 

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please click on sign up and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to.  

Younger children are welcome to participate with their parents or a guardian/caregiver (an adult is required for minors younger than 13 to sign up). 

Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope. 

Please allow 48 hours for me to get back to you with the instructions. 

If you are in need of community service hours, I am happy to confirm your hours for you. Please submit pictures of your letters as proof. We will be tracking and logging the actual time you spent working on the letters/cards and do NOT assign a specific number of letters per hour. Come serve our families on Tuesday nights by helping with childcare during our adult English class for Hispanic adults! Make sure to sign up on our volunteer platform HERE if you are coming!

In our partnership with The Nashville Food Project, OSDTN gets fresh hot meals to hand out at our Nashville Service Center every Wednesday. We need up to two volunteers who could assist with dishing out the meals to the Veterans.

Meal of Hope is our weekly meal for the homeless & inner-city community! Join us for live music, prayer, an encouraging word, and fellowship with a loving community over a hot meal. Volunteers arrive at 5 PM and we welcome guests at 5:30 PM.

There are opportunities to serve during and after the meal is served. Once we finish cleanup, we'll conclude the night with testimonies! See below for a few service options!

Join us every Friday for a nursery rhymes and phonics class with preschool kids at our Rolling Hills community. These children are refugees and immigrants from Spanish speaking countries, so learning English at a young age is crucial to their academic success!

Join us for a hands-on volunteer opportunity supporting the Columbia Heroes Breakfast. Volunteers will pack table bundles, organize name badges, and assist with final event preparations to help set the stage for a meaningful and successful event.

Every Monday night, People Loving Nashville serves some of Nahsville's most vulnerable community members by providing relief, community, connection & restoration through serving meals, clothing, & resources.

We are planning to be at the Turnip Truck the 2nd Monday of the month January through August.

Operation Commissary is an innovative program designed by OSDTN to assist Veterans experiencing food insecurity across our 31-county service area in Middle Tennessee. The Operation Commissary team assists Veterans with short-term food needs, tailored case management, and connections to community resources. We are looking for 5 volunteers to help with some lifting and putting away the purchased food before packing around 100 new food bags each week. 

Attire: Wear a T-shirt, pants, and closed-toed shoes because you will be in our warehouse moving around.

Additional Information: Park for free at our Nashville location (1125 12th Avenue South) & enter at our 12th Ave Entrance. You will be in our warehouse moving around, so we highly suggest you bring water.

Come  join Friends of Mill Ridge Park to help throw our annual community celebration, Pear Jam! Pear Jam will feature live performances, local cuisine, demonstrations, crafts, games, activities and giveaways. Your support as a volunteer helps improve the wellness of our community and environment by providing recreation and conservation activities and events at Mill Ridge Park in Antioch. Ideal For: Detail-oriented volunteers who enjoy behind-the-scenes work and working in a team setting.

Join us as we welcome 14 men who are experiencing homelessness for a night of community, shelter, and food. Trevecca Community Church partners with Room in the Inn to offer overnight shelter, showers, meals, and fellowship once a week during the winter months.

During the volunteer time frame, volunteers will prepare dinner, prep two additional meals (breakfast in the morning and to-go lunch), and clean-up the kitchen once complete. You are invited to eat with the men we are hosting, and we encourage you to converse with our guests!

For example, Christmas letters should be mailed at the latest by December 13th, so that staff at the facility have enough time to distribute the letters to the residents.

Do you find Medicare interesting?

Would you enjoy being a popular resource on all things Medicare for your friends, family and the community?

Then this opportunity is for you! Volunteers with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) will learn how to break up the complicated issue of Medicare into bite size pieces for others and provide assistance to them in choosing the Medicare plans and assistance options (if applicable) that are right for them. You will learn to provide unbiased and accurate information to anyone you assist. 

SHIP Volunteers will be able to give clients peace of mind and can witness first-hand the impact they are making in the beneficiary's life with the information they provide. 

Volunteers who'd like to attend events to share Medicare information and do plan comparisons or administrative work for the program but NO direct client counseling there is the option to attend just up to the second-class session.

Any volunteer who would like to be a full counselor will need to attend the full curriculum (all three class sessions) as well as participate in individually scheduled mentoring and call shadowing prior to counseling independently. The training classes build on each other, so it is important not to miss a session.

Medicare Volunteer Certification Curriculum

Class 1: Thursday, February 4 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm (virtual via Microsoft Teams)

Class 2: Friday, February 12 from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm (in-person at GNRC's offices)

Class 3: Friday, February 19 from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm (in-person at GNRC's offices)

Part of your training is hands-on experience. You can participate in a variety of different events. The event schedule will be provided during the first session. In addition, we will schedule counseling calls for you to observe. You will be asked to provide your availability to shadow counseling calls prior to the start of the cohort. 

We will go over the training schedule with you to determine what level of training and commitment is best for you. Application forms and initial conversation with the Volunteer Manager are required for participation. Nations Ministry Center is a local nonprofit that helps refugee families become generationally self-sufficient through a variety of services, including immigration assistance and educational programming. Located in Southeast Nashville, Nations Ministry Center works directly with families in the heart of some of the city's most culturally diverse neighborhoods.  

Nations Academy, a literacy tutoring initiative of Nations Ministry Center, helps refugee children close the literacy gap through targeted language development and homework assistance in a safe and supportive environment using Nashville's Vision for Holistic Youth Development to cultivate growth mindsets, connect social and emotional skills, and grow cognitive skills.

Volunteers are needed to assist refugee youth in the classroom with literacy practice, homework help, and community building. Materials are provided. We'll orient and prepare you for your role. You simply need to show up ready to encourage youth! Scheduled opportunities are available Mondays through Thursdays 3:15-6:15 (elementary classrooms) and 4:00-6:00 (middle school classrooms).

Keep in mind this is not a drop-in opportunity. Volunteers build friendships by volunteering on a consistent, once a week basis and must be scheduled to serve. The best fits for this role are:

Volunteer opportunities are available to high schoolers, college students, and adults. Required service verification is available, as well as internship opportunities. Participants 18 or over must pass a required background check before serving. All volunteers will participate in an orientation process prior to serving, and should have compassion for the refugee journey and the obstacles faced by English-language learners.

Patient Care Volunteers provide friendly visits and companionship to patients and/or their caregivers.  Patient Care Volunteers may provide caregiver relief, read to patients, play music for patients, assist in letter writing, running errands for patients and/or caregivers, or just sit and talk. Our volunteers spend time in patient's homes, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing facilities. 

 Give as little or as much of your time as you would like. All volunteers will attend orientation and be trained before going into the field.

Adoration Hospice Administrative Volunteers may work out of the Nashville, Kingston Springs, or Murfreesboro office - performing the following tasks: office support, mailings, filing, medical supply storage, scanning, and answering phones. 

Other tasks Administrative Volunteers may assist with - presentations and training, community events, phone calls to patients, bereavement support, crafting, prepare and deliver welcome baskets to new patients.

As a TN SHIP/SMP (Tennessee State Health Insurance Assistance Program/Senior Medicare Patrol) Volunteer Medicare Counselor you will be assisting individuals who have questions regarding the Medicare program through one-on-one counseling over the phone, in-person, or via email. You will receive extensive training to assist Medicare beneficiaries and will be trained to provide free, non-biased and personalized counseling and referral services to a wide range of health insurance issues.

Project Purpose:

TN SHIP’s goal is to provide free, non-biased, personalized counseling and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and their families who need the help in navigating their way through the Medicare program. SHIP provides understandable and objective information to Medicare beneficiaries on a wide range of health insurance issues. Volunteers are essential in providing these services.

Transportation is a challenge for many seniors in Nashville and providing a ride is a meaningful way to help our older neighbors get where they need to go. Senior Ride Nashville connects older adults to community by providing essential transportation and support services. We are looking for caring, reliable volunteer drivers to provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, beauty/barber shops, community centers and more!  Your time can make a big difference in the lives of older adults in Nashville.

SRN drivers use their own vehicles and select rides based on their availability, location, and interest using an online scheduling tool. Volunteer drivers must complete an orientation and a background and motor vehicle record check before driving responsibilities begin. Records are checked on a recurring basis.

Volunteer as a blood donor ambassador to help our blood donors have a pleasant experience. Locations include Hendersonville, Brentwood, and Murfreesboro.

Summary

Having a clean space for our clients when they come to visit our centers is a vital part of the work that we do. It is part of our trauma-informed practice, and it helps show our clients that they are worthy of a beautiful space at which they can receive help and services. Having various groups such as companies, school groups, organizations, volunteer groups, etc. come and help us deep clean our centers is essential to our work. 

Responsibilities

The homeless often have a hard time finding food especially since COVID-19 has shut down many shelters! We are collecting gift cards to restaurants in the Tennessee area that we can give to the homeless so they can get hot meals when other organizations are not providing that night. 

Since school is about to start, we know so many students and families get new backpacks every year, but what do you do with your old ones? We want to collect gently used or NEW backpacks to our homeless friends. We want to make sure they have something to carry their items in once we give them the other supplies!

GraceWorks Ministries will be collecting donations at our facility on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9-1.  I need volunteers to come help carry in donations from our donors.  You will need to wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.  Lifting will be involved.

ABOUT: The Store operates as a free grocery store allowing people to shop for their basic needs. Our mission is to nourish communities and cultivate hope by providing nutritious food choices and access to supportive services in a dignified, loving environment. This volunteer opportunity will allow you to make a tangible impact upon the local community. You'll be helping provide wholesome food to families and the food insecure in a welcoming environment while protecting dignity and fostering hope.

ROLES: We are dependent on an excited and passionate volunteer base to help our customers shop. These volunteer shifts will mainly involve checking people out at the register, ensuring customers do not exceed specified item limits, bagging their groceries in a timely and efficient manner, and escorting customers to their vehicles with their groceries. At the start of the shift, you will have an orientation and brief training; to ensure that we can process as many customers as possible, please be on time. During this shift you may also be greeting customers at check-in, helping people with questions while they shop, cleaning and tidying, stocking shelves and produce, unloading pallets, or other miscellaneous tasks. You will be able to take a break during your shift, so you are welcome to bring a snack and drink for break time.

Volunteer Drivers provide rides to those who are 60 years or older and no longer drive to get to medical appointments, grocery stores, senior centers and more in their own vehicles!

We provide transportation for riders to a 25 mile radius of Portland. Drivers can pick up rides that fit their schedule. 

Volunteer nurses work with staff nurses and providers to deliver comprehensive patient care at Siloam’s Primary Care Clinic. Volunteer nurses are responsible for welcoming patients to the clinic and performing all intake procedures, and they also provide assistance during appointments in order to provide excellent and compassionate care. Volunteer nurses are trained and supported by staff nurses.

Come meet the amazing Contributor vendors and staff as we celebrate the launch of a new edition of the paper, work together to improve the business and lives of our vendors, and enjoy the community that is at the core of The Contributor's success.

Volunteering at ThriftSmart is a hands-on way to make a real impact in our community. Since we are open seven days a week, our great volunteer opportunities can fit most schedules. We welcome both individual volunteers and groups of up to 15 people.

Without volunteers we couldn’t do all the things we’ve been doing in our community. We could not keep expanding in ways we dream of to become even more involved with the residents of Nashville and the surrounding areas without volunteer help.  We get to meet and help new people every day who visit our store.

Are you a skilled photographer and enjoy taking people of pictures and events?

Then we are looking for you!

We'd love to find a volunteer photographer who would be available to take pictures at various board meetings, community events etc. Majority of these events will be indoors. We'd like you to capture the events and the people who participated. 

Times and days and frequency varies. We can discuss events and meetings on a one by one basis.

Interested in helping The Nashville Food Project leverage food that is already in our community to meet the needs of our neighbors? Join us for a “Best Use” prep session! We receive weekly bulk donations from incredible partners such as Costco and Bells Bend Farms. Our “Best Use” prep sessions focus on turning those bulk donations into prepared, usable ingredients to be incorporated into our meals! Over 40% of food in the U.S. goes to waste and our food recovery efforts are a form of resistance to the myth that hunger is a scarcity issue! “Best Use” group prep sessions are a wonderful way to build team comradery, perfect your dicing skills, and support the work of community food security simultaneously!   

"Best Use" Prep sessions take place in our commercial kitchen setting, supported by our Meals team. Sample tasks may include: chopping and assembling veggie and fruit salads from donated produce, washing, coring, and dicing fresh harvests of tomatoes to be incorporated into sauces for the week’s coming meals, sorting recovered hauls to identify usable ingredients and separating compostable items to be broken down in our compost systems to act as inputs for our garden spaces, scrubbing, peeling and chopping farm-fresh potatoes to serve as a roasted root vegetable side for the week’s mobile meals and many other similar roles!

Our café program is designed to be a space for our participants to relax, enjoy a cup (or three!) of coffee, and some light breakfast items (think of what you may find at your favorite coffee shop!). We are always looking for volunteers that are eager to serve others, hear stories from those in the chaos, and to help us provide a place of rest for those using our programming.

Café is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 8:30am - 10am. Volunteers should prepare to arrive between 8-8:15a.

Everyone needs help sometimes, and we are here to support families in their time of need. Each month, our Pantry provides fresh, nutritious food to over 1,000 + families in the Greater Nashville area, giving them peace of mind from knowing there is food for their tables. 

Volunteer Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays  and Saturday

Volunteer Hours: 9:30am -2:30pm

We have multiple ways to serve in The Pantry:

We are in need of volunteers on Thursdays in one of our ELL classes at The Branch Mondays(6:15-8:15) or at The Southeast Branch of Nashville Public Library (6:00pm-7:45pm). This need would ideally be served by someone who can make a weekly commitment. Meet and greet adults who are taking English classes at The Branch. Direct them to their classes and serve as conversation partners for workbook and conversation activities and assist teacher with reading, writing, and in-class activities. 

Volunteers who can come a minimum of twice per month for 2 hours each day and a maximum of twice per week (or more if you are able!). Volunteer roles include Session Leaders (leading mentorship sessions either on a one-on-one or small group basis), "RA"s Ranch Assistants (helping with Sessions and completing chores during), and Horse Care (feeding, watering, mucking out, and giving hay to the Session horse herd).

No horse experience necessary. After applying to volunteer, you will be invited to a "Round-Up" (a tour of the Ranch) to learn more about volunteering, asked for 2 letters of recommendation and a background check, and then signed up for training dates. Vendor Sales Office (Weekdays and Saturday Morning)

A fantastic place to connect and engage with our unhoused Nashville Neighbor. 

 Get to know our vendors!! Our vendor sales office is where vendors come to purchase papers.  This office, open six days a week is almost entirely volunteer-driven. It takes two volunteers to fully staff each shift. Volunteer responsibilities include invoicing, cashiering, and distributing papers. Vendor office volunteer roles are high-commitment positions. We are looking for individuals that can commit to consistently serving at least one shift each week.  A shift can be 2.5 hours (1/2 day) or 5 hours (full day).We treat our volunteers like staff and look for individuals that will treat their position with the same respect they would a job (e.g. giving ample notice if you cannot make a shift, arriving early, etc.)

Social Work Intern: The Contributor social work intern will get valuable on-the-ground experience working directly with people experiencing homelessness and navigating the process of getting into permanent housing. You will assist our housing navigators with helping out vendors of The Contributor through running errands, making phone calls, and occasional clerical work. All majors will be considered but this would be especially beneficial to those interested in nonprofit management or social work. Candidates must be current college students and must have a reliable vehicle, though mileage will be reimbursed. This internship is unpaid and must be used for school credit. The Contributor office staff will work with the intern(s) to adjust responsibilities and ensure the internship aligns with the participant’s career goals
